New comic, and a quick refresher
So...
I've begun the new job. Corporate training for the next three weeks. The women I work with are all really excellent people, and they're doing their best not to get too worked up when I doodle on my notepads while I'm going over the online tutorials. Good deal, since I've never been able to sit at a desk without doodling in the margins of my papers.
I am going up to Chicago area for an interview tomorrow night after work. The interview is actually Friday morning, but rather than leave here at 4am, I think I'll just get a hotel room and go in fresh.
Freelance work has been kicking my ass lately. I have bags under the bags under my eyes. I've developed such a ridiculous tolerance for espresso that I can drink ten shots in my coffees during the day, and still crash as soon as my head hits the pillow at night. I have no social life outside of work. I've alienated just about every girl I've been flirting with in the past few months. BUT... I love the direction my comic strip is heading lately.
I'm tired, but I'm doing what I always wanted to do. Well, aside from that day job thing.
I have faith in myself. I see signs every day that make me wonder if fate is more than an imaginary concept. I'm sleep deprived, too. Did I mention this? Three people told me last week that they hoped I will remember them when I'm a famous artist. Three people this week have spoken to me about the importance of doing what you love...following your passion. Well, I think it's obvious what mine is. (who just yelled, "porn!"?)
If the comic I'm posting for your perusal is stupid, then at least you know why. I like it. I've been on a few set-ups...blind dates...a handful...enough to know how fruitless and completely hilarious the outcomes tend to be. I've asked some girls about THEIR personal experiences on blind dates. I'm willing to admit that without their stories today, I would never have dreamt that shoes are a factor in a first impression with girls. I guess that's either a good reason for me to a)buy some nicer shoes, or b) be relieved that I haven't attracted the type of girl that would frown upon me because I was wearing my steel toes.
Oh wait-I did date that one girl last fall/winter. Damned fashion snob. I used to tight roll my jeans before going over to her place just for the expression she'd give me. hehe

OK. Wish me luck on the job interview on Friday, people!
ahhh, and in case you pick up the Times this week and my comic's not in it...
The editor was expressing some (last minute) reservations about offending the deaf demographic. And to think...I was envisioning senior citizens when I was finalizing the concept. huh.

the deaf demographic? old people?
i missed something ...
but i LOVE the shoe part, women (not me!) really do that! and it's about as fair as you portray it
Funny...glad you came up with a cute punchline.
And, for the record, as long as you've been talking to me you've been busy, and here I am, posting in your blog, fairly unalienated...for what that's worth...
...which is probably not much since I'm the quintessential friend-girl, as I'll be discussing in my blog today. :)
Good luck with your interview!!!
great work, as usual Mark!!!
